One of the great things about living in Bristol is that we are so close to the coast. Sand Bay is a popular beach in Weston-Super-Mare which is dog friendly all year. You can walk your dog along the beach and up into the fields and explore other coves along the coast. Find out more here.

Ashton Court Estate

A post shared by Hazel (@hazelw90) on

In the heart of our city we have this wonderful estate. Ashton has 850 acres of grassland for your dog to run around in and woods to explore. There are three car parks, one at the bottom of the estate next to the house, one at the top next to the golf course and one just next to The Ashton pub. Parking costs only £1.20 for the whole day, so you can make the most of it and wander around the large estate all day. Why not treat yourself to a hot chocolate from one of the cafes whilst taking in the breath taking views across our wonderful city. Plan your walk here.

Blaise Castle Estate

A post shared by Amber Rose (@amber_rosee) on

Located only 5 miles away from the city centre, this is another fantastic estate to walk your dog. There are 650 acres of scenic woodland and open parkland for your dog to sniff around in, while you try and search for the castle. There is also a stream near the bottom of the estate that your dog will love to swim in! Parking is free and there are two locations where you can park, the main one is just off of King Weston Road and there is another small car park located in Coombe Dingle. Plan your walk here.

Part of the National Trust, this beautiful woodland is located in Abbots Leigh (directions here). Easy to follow pathways lead to superb views of the Avon Gorge and Bristol Suspension Bridge. You and your dog will find yourself exploring the woodland for hours. This woodland area is also the perfect place to take your dog on a summer evening as the trees provide shelter from the sun. Parking is free but opening times vary depending on the time of year. Leigh Woods, car park off the A369, BS8 3QB (It is well sign posted).

Swineford Cirular Walk

A post shared by Hazel (@hazelw90) on

If you are looking to head out a bit further afield, then the Swineford circular walk is perfect. The walk is 5 miles long and takes around 2 -3 hours. There are some large hills, but it will be well worth it for the stunning views across Bristol and Wales. There is some road walking and you will be going through farmland so always keep your dog on a lead if livestock are in the field. Once you've finished the walk you can cool yourself down with a refreshing drink at one of the local pubs. Plan your walk here.

Abbotts Pool

A post shared by Little Lumber (@quickster_) on

Abbotts Pool is not a very long walk, but it is definitely worth exploring. The pond is the main feature with picturesque surrounding woodland. It used to be used in medieval times for fishing and farming. Parking is free and the pond is just a short walk through the woods. Plan your walk here.

It is even known to be haunted, so keep your eyes peeled for any ghosts! Plan your walk here.
